Constellation Microscopium (The Microscope)

Microscopium or The Microscope is one of the 88 constellations modern astronomers have divided the sky into. It's part of the Lacaille constellation family. Microscopium is best seen in September (from latitudes +45° to -90°)

Pictured as an early form of compound microscope, i.e. one that uses more than one lens, this constellation lies beneath the forelegs of Capricornus. Eight main stars make up the constellation with the brightest being Gamma Microscopii. Microscopium shines 64 times brighter than the Sun and has 2.5 times more mass. It is located 229 light years away.
